So a while back...

I mentioned a guy named RPGPundit who seems to think he's a treasure of gaming knowledge and is involved in some sort of "war against the swine" where swine are people who like make believe enablers like role playing games he doesn't. He's a venom filled little moron who has managed to make himself a bit popular in some circles in the oldest and easiest way possible...by shitting on other people all the while claiming he's the one being attacked. In this case his attackers are people who like to play pretend in ways he doesn't and the people who make a really meager buck writing games in those styles.

No really, such folks exist...and no I don't get it either. It's like there are rich white people who really think they are oppressed by illegal immigrants and poor people. This is like that, except with role playing games...which makes it terribly fucking sad.

So anyway, I was directed recently to another blog post of this guys' where he writes a whole blog entry about some guy from the rpg game site rpg.net who calls himself Spinach Baron (hey, some people juggle geese) and his comment about bad game mastering. Again, not linking to it because he wants attention and this is more about my own musings. You can, naturally, Google him up to read his comments about mostly what's "wrong" with gaming, but other weird things like how awesome freemasons are and even dating (more on that later).

In this particular entry, he calls this Spinach-loving guy names for basically saying that a rpg Game Master (the guy who runs the game in a pen and paper roleplaying game like Dungeons and Dragons) who adhere to "power for power's sake" is a bad GM no matter how skilled.

Now I'm not sure I agree with that myself. I tend to believe that power hungry people tend to be poor at their chosen tasks because they let power lust get in the way and the pettier the field the worse they are. However, I can entertain a person who loves the mostly silly rush of power you get from controlling an rpg for a group of people and is good at doing so despite the rather silly motivation.

Still, I don't begrudge the guy his opinion. Even if I don't completely share it. Especially not on a little thread on a message board that is a whole 3 pages long.

I certainly didn't feel the need to call him an asswipe because he doesn't share my opinion.

Apparently, that's not what you do if you are a rpg pundit. Excuse me, the RPGPundit. No, if you are you write a bunch of words about what the real deal and right way is. However, you start with calling the guy who said what you don't agree with an asswipe.

Now why would someone do that? I dunno. I'm guessing because you're a expatriate rebel with a devil may care attitude. One who has, I shit you not, a girlfriend who lives in Canada.

Seriously, this guy and his tirades are a joke right? The Avenue Q reference was the tip off, right? Silly gamers don't really sit around cafes in South America smoking pipes with their freemason rings and their laptops firing off hate filled comments about two sentences on a message board and call it a war, right?

Right? Right? Can you hear me in the back?

Sigh. Sadly, I think I know the answer. Or at least I know the question. The answer is a zombie apocalypse.
