Been Awhile...

Taking a day off from my usual 13+ hour work day (which admittedly includes the commute) to write up a little something.

Not much, since my day off was largely made necessary by a migraine. So instead of a long rambling article about something I'm going to throw out random thoughts which are probably a lot more akin to what most blogs actually have in them.

1) Marvel's Civil War, taken as a whole, sucked.

2) 300 was a good movie. Not great, but fun, and visually impressive.

3) Good anime seems to have come around again in the form of Fate/Stay Night, Chevalier D'Eon, Coyote Ragtime, and Ergo Proxy.

4) The Dresden Files books and TV show are pretty cool. In some ways I like the latter better, in others the former.

5) God of War II and Company of Heroes are great video games.

6) Tamara Siler Jones' Dubric the Castellan series is one of the best fantasy series I've stumbled upon. All of them are availiable in paperback and all of them are more than worth the time and money. Ghosts in the Snow is the first book if I recall correctly.

7) I certainly hope White Wolf's new game Scion is as good as it looks. I could use a new rpg and I think WW could use a new hit.

8) Justice League Unlimited's final season just hit DVD. What a great show. Also Ben 10's first season has hit DVD. Also a great show.

9) Mid season new TV has been a mixed bag. BBC's Robin Hood has potential but it's a bit of a slow start (that said, I was warned about that), the aforementioned Dresden Files is fun, and the Tudors is very well done and I'm liking it more than I thought I would.

10) Did I mentioned Civil War sucked?

1) Yeah the ideas were in some cases great...the execution..not so much

2) Agreed. It certainly wasn't deep, but it stuck with me a bit more than Sky Captain, which was the last visually stunning but sorta empty film I recall not disliking

4)The books are pretty good. Not perfect but entertaining. The thing with the show is that the episode Storm Front, which I'm pretty sure was the pilot but was shown out of order was really good...which makes me worry the series is departing from that strong beginning (even if it wasn't shown first). Still, its a fun show

5) Oh definitely check out GoW I first. The story is part of the fun and it will mean a lot more f you play the first one.

7) Yeah, I mean really...is it April 18th yet? I so want this game. It's been awhile since I've actually been excited about a new rpg but Scion has me interested.

8) Yeah the "Man of Action" team is a good one, and they really hit a good thing with Ben 10. Apparently there is going to be a spin off/time jump forward soon, which will have Ben and Gwen as teens...which promises to be pretty cool.

10) I think Emo-Speedball and Fascist Iron Man are in a race to see who sucks the worst. Sadly for both of them, Shill for the Status Quo Reed Richards in winning.

1) Civil War was and is one of the worst things Marvel has done. And having Mark Millar writing was the proverbial nail on the coffin.

But at least other writers got something good out of it, like Neil Gaiman (Eternals) and Brian K. Vaughn (Runaways).

2) I liked 300, but I'm really tired of Frank Miller and his stuff, and even the good ones.

3) Seen all of those series, and they're seriously awesome, especially Coyote Ragtime Show. And have you seen Utawarerumono, Speed Grapher and the new (old?) Guyver series? I'm really digging those.

4)The Dresden Files IS good, even if I was never a fan of Jim Butcher's novels.

5) Yup, God of War 1 was one of the best games I played...ever. GoW 2 went even further. I know I'm definitely playing it again. Company of Heroes is awesome, too, and they're coming out with an expansion pack that adds the British and German sides.

6) Great, more novels...I'm still trying to get through the latest Repairman Jack stuff. :P

7) Scion looks cool, and glad to see they're streamlining the system, too.

8) Justice League Unlimited AND Batman Beyond DVDs are out. Both are great buys.

9) I saw the new BBC Robin Hood series, but wasn't impressed. Has good potential, though. However, David Tennant's Dr. Who is growing on me...

10) Agreed. But to make up for it, there's always Annihiliation.

3) Seen the new Guyver but haven't seen the others yet. Tokko is also pretty fun, not quite as "OMG must go home and watch new DVD now" as Fate or Chevalier, but it's still pretty fun and its a horror anime, which is fairly rare at the moment.

3) I've seen all of Fate/Stay Night through, um, alternative means, and it's a great series. Same with Chevalier D'Eon, though Chevalier didn't draw me in as much. Tokko is cool, and reminds me of an old series called Silent Mobius, but not as interesting.
